Nolin River Lake
Walleye are active in the upper lake from Sportsman’s Paradise upstream. Fish at night under lights with a jigging spoon or lead head jig tipped with a night crawler or large leech. Several 20-inch plus fish have been caught. Crappie are also active and anglers are catching them in the creeks with standing timber fishing minnows 12-15 ft deep with slip corks.

Activity for most species has slowed at Nolin the last couple of weeks. White bass can be caught trolling main lake points with deeper diving crank baits. Fishing live minnows or jigging spoons 12-14 ft deep under lights at night can also produce good numbers as well as crappie and an occasional walleye. Fish for largemouth bass at dusk on the longer main lake and secondary points using Carolina-rigged plastic worms and lizards. Fish for catfish at night around the steeper rocky banks or try jug fishing the same areas.

Fishing the jumps for white bass can be productive early morning using a popping cork or floating surface bait and trailer. White bass can also be caught trolling main lake points with deeper diving crank baits. Fishing at night with live minnows or using a jigging spoon 12-14 ft can produce good numbers of white bass as well as crappie and an occasional walleye. Use a Carolina-rigged plastic worm or lizard fished 12-15 feet deep on channel drops and long points at dusk or after for largemouth bass. Fish cut baits or night crawlers for channel catfish and live bait for flathead catfish on the steeper rocky banks at night.

ERLANGER – The big one that didn’t get away has landed an Erlanger man in the record books.

Rob Marsh was fishing for bluegill June 17 in one of the private lakes at Forest Lawn Memorial Park when a 58-1/2 pound grass carp fancied the little piece of bread dangling on a hook beneath his bobber.
Two days later, Marsh’s catch was verified as the state record by a fisheries biologist with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources (KDFWR). It bested the previous mark, set in 2001, by three pounds.
