Rob Marsh was fishing for bluegill June 17 in one of the private lakes at Forest Lawn Memorial Park when a 58-1/2 pound grass carp fancied the little piece of bread dangling on a hook beneath his bobber.

Two days later, Marsh’s catch was verified as the state record by a fisheries biologist with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources (KDFWR). It bested the previous mark, set in 2001, by three pounds.
